A signalling remnant that survived all the road improvements, this is wooden cover would have boxed in the signal wires to keep them free of snow. It can be seen in the images noted below. At
this point the line would be partly the farm track and partly the westbound A66. When the railway was open, the A66 was a two way road roughly as the current eastbound carriageway where the vehicles are to the
right of this view. The path rises up to reconnect with gate which ran over the bridge in this image:
